Professor of Business Intelligence at Fulda University of Applied Sciences

What an unforgettable week! 2006 I visited Leiden University to study ICT in Business during my own Erasmus semester. 20 years later I had the privilege to host an Erasmus+-Workshop with 25 students from 7 different universities and even more nationalities at our Department of Applied Computer Sciences - Fulda University of Applied Sciences. I am very thankful that we had the same spirit of intercultural work and full commitment that I experienced years ago. The students used human brainstorming, agent-based prompting, and advanced AI algorithms to find a solution for a data mining task. Based on the derived features, a modern XGBoost-algorithm performed significantly better than the alternative algorithms and was fine-tuned consequently. While two teams gained slightly better results with focusing on fewer and more relevant features, all teams performed well and gained additional knowledge in data mining. Thanks to Floor Weijman from Saxion University of Applied Sciences and Tatiana Blömer for supporting the course and thanks to students from Babes-Bolyai University, JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Linnaeus University, New Bulgarian University, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, USTP – University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten, as well as from Fulda University of Applied Sciences, for their high motivation. One learning for future Blended Intensive Learning Programs (BIP): Give students more explicit breaks as breaks which should be organized by motivated groups are skipped too often ;-).
