It’s almost as if we haven’t tried this already, and it didn’t work 🤔 *tone: sarcasm* The whole reason we moved to a single diagnostic label in 2013 with “levels”, was that our prior attempts at categorising autism as seperate “conditions” (Aspergers, autistic disorder, PDD-NOS) had poor diagnostic clarity and predictive ability. Our current diagnostic framework, while not perfect, allows us to understand autism as a single neurotype. I often think people misunderstand this as meaning every autistic person has the same level of disability. However, our current framework actually takes differences in functioning into account more clearly than previous frameworks. I agree with Steven, that this is a concern and will only send us backwards, and not forwards!
