Books are I find, the best provisions a man can take with him on life’s journey – Stefan Zweig, Montaigne Hoping to be intentional about spending consistent time on reading this year. Short summary of the books I read in January. Some of them are re-reads. Material World, Ed Conway The book looks at how sand, salt, iron, copper, oil and lithium shape our lives, and how we are dependent on these for sustaining our modern way of life. The book traces the path of these 6 materials from extraction to their destination in everyday objects that we use. Fascinating read, indeed! Montaigne, Stefan Zweig A short biography of Michel de Montaigne that gives an insightful intro into Montaigne’s writing. After reading the biography, compelled to read “The Complete Essays” by Montaigne Siddhartha, Hermann Hesse Yet another start to the year with a re-read of Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha. Siddhartha is about one man’s search for enlightenment and the paths he takes to get there. There’s something about this book that brings in essential calmness when one reads it The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, Charlie Mackesy Have read this book countless times, and this is a book for all seasons At home in the world, Thich Nhat Hanh The book is a collection of autobiographical and teaching stories from Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. A wonderful read! #books
