I’ve supported over 1,000 provisional psychologists to prepare for the NPE, and many have come to me after failing on their first, second, or even third attempt. Here’s what I’ve noticed. Failing the NPE doesn’t say much about a person’s clinical competence. Preparing for and passing the NPE requires more than competence alone. It’s about having the right strategy, using the right methods, and focusing on the resources that are actually relevant. It’s also about knowing how to sit a high-stakes 3.5-hour exam and answer questions in the way AHPRA expects. So if you have failed, remember this. You are still very likely a capable psychologist. What usually needs to change is not you, but your approach. #nationalpsychologyexam #npe #provisionalpsychologist
