My wife & I chose to homeschool our daughters. We made this decision because it gives them something most kids don’t get much of… freedom. It’s by no means an easy ride but there are many reasons why this works well for us as a family, here are a few: 1. We are firm believers that kids deserve real freedom, not just a few minutes between bells. 2. Our girls are completely different so it allows each of them to be met where they are, not where a timetable says they should be. 3. We don’t see childhood as a race. We just want them to love learning and not be worried about who’s ahead and where they rank. 4. Traditional school days are just too long. Add in homework, after-school clubs, commuting… and there’s barely any time left to just be together as a family. 5. We believe life is the best teacher. We don’t need a classroom to raise kind, capable and curious children. This isn’t about perfect parenting and I’m definitely not saying this is what anyone else should be doing. It’s just what works best for us right now and so far, it’s given us more of the life we actually want to live together.
