Recently, we had the opportunity to file a Public Interest Litigation on behalf of a NPO Swachh Association concerning the well-being and preservation of Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV) Land Parcels in Nagpur City. The lush green PDKV Land Parcels are considered as the lungs of Nagpur City. The primary contention was that the land parcels alloted to PDKV by the state government are to be strictly utilized for agricultural education and research. They cannot be given to private entities for commercial and non-agricultural purposes. Our contentions were backed by the Government Resolutions of the Agricultural Department of the State of Maharashtra. Yet, we could demonstrate several instances where the agricultural university had squared off these crucial land parcels for non-agricultural purposes. The Bombay High Court has granted us interim relief thereby restraining private parties from carrying out commercial activities on PDKV Land Parcels.
