At 22 years old Ferran Torres was “in a bottomless pit and couldn’t see a way out.” Today he scored Spain’s winning World Cup goal. In 2022, Torres signed with FC Barcelona. He thought he had achieved his dreams and that his life would change for the better. Instead, he said that time in his life was mentally the darkest time he’s ever experienced. He felt pressure coming from all sides and his confidence was at an all time low. Then in 2023, he asked for help. He started working with a psychologist and made therapy a regular part of his life attending 1-3 times a week. “I found myself in a bottomless pit, and I could not see a way out. It had never happened to me before. I lost my confidence. Everything was affecting me and I didn’t know hot to manage it. That was the moment when I decided to work with a psychologist." According to a 2020 study by Med Sport, 51% of athletes struggle or have struggled with a mental illness. Depression and anxiety disorders being in the top. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re weak.
