⚠️ The FBI has issued a new warning about the Silent Ransom Group (SRG), a cybercrime gang now using social engineering tactics that go far beyond phishing emails. Their latest method? Pretending to be IT support, then physically visiting offices to steal sensitive data. According to the FBI, attackers are: • Calling or emailing employees while posing as IT support • Requesting remote desktop access • Sending someone onsite if remote access fails • Plugging unauthorized USB devices or hard drives directly into company computers Confidential client files, privileged communications, financial records, and litigation data make legal practices a prime target for extortion groups. And these attackers are specifically impersonating IT help desks and support portals for U.S. law firms. This is a reminder that cybersecurity isn't just a technology issue, it’s an operational and people issue. Now is the time to: ✔️ Invest in cybersecurity training ✔️ Reinforce physical security procedures ✔️ Block unauthorized USB devices ✔️ Review remote access policies ✔️ Ensure employees know your actual IT support process If your firm needs help assessing risk or strengthening internal security protocols, our team can help!
