The skills that make you a great founder aren't always the skills that make you a great scaler. Damian James built a podiatry business bringing care directly into aged care facilities. By 2015: $200K profit on $2.5M revenue but growth had plateaued. Instead of pushing harder as the operator, he hired a CEO with equity tied to revenue milestones, and stepped back to focus on vision. The results: → Revenue grew to $11M in under 3 years → The business was acquired for $13.4 million in 2017 → Valuation increased over 500% in under three years He didn't scale the business himself. He recognized when to step back and that's what created the exit. Starting a business is about vision. Scaling one is about execution. Few people are exceptional at both.
