Accor and Banque des Territoires are joining forces to bring the Citadelle Vauban of Belle-Île-en-Mer back to life, marking a new chapter in the transformation of one of France's most emblematic historical monuments. A landmark on the Breton coastline for nearly five centuries, the Citadelle Vauban has stood at the entrance of Le Palais harbour since the 17th century. Closed for several years, it is now the subject of an ambitious restoration programme that will preserve its historical identity while giving it a new and lasting future. Through this partnership, Accor and Banque des Territoires unite their expertise to ensure the restoration, enhancement, and sustainable operation of the site. Set to open in summer 2027 as the first French address of Emblems Collection, the property will feature 90 keys, two restaurants, a bar, a nearly 2,000 sqm wellness destination, seminar spaces, and a fully reimagined museum open to visitors and residents of Belle-Île alike. Beyond its heritage dimension, this project is a territorial development initiative. The Citadelle will become the island's largest private employer, with over 100 permanent staff and around 70 seasonal positions, while prioritising partnerships with local producers, craftspeople, and suppliers.
