Federal health missions are under immense pressure to do more with less, modernize complex workflows, and untangle data interoperability challenges. AI is a powerful accelerator to meet these demands, but safeguarding patients remains paramount. During Human in the Lead: AI in Federal Health #AtTheForge, we explored how to accelerate healthcare innovation while keeping humans firmly in the lead. Michael Abramoff, MD highlighted how autonomous AI is now a validated, reimbursed clinical service ready to ethically close care gaps and advance health equity. Robert Heyl (CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield), Terry Hemken (Accenture) Garrett Berntsen, and Susie Rainey discussed how to overcome major hurdles in health AI adoption, encouraging an AI-first approach focused on achieving vital outcomes rather than chasing use cases and AI literacy. We showcased tangible solutions for data interoperability and fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) detection. Together with our partners at Google, Philips, CLEAR, and DexCare, the technology on display reinforced that healthcare is human, and AI is its accelerator.
