4th Year Medical Student at UCL | iBSc (Hons) in Medical Sciences with Anatomy

As someone who is still just as close with my childhood friends now, I owe a lot of it to Greenwood Primary School. This primary school housed me from Nursery all the way until Year 6 and as a Medical student, my friends and I thought what better way to mix both than go into the primary school we were raised at to run some workshops to teach the basics of taking care of themselves and healthcare! This consisted of teaching Year 6 students, in the same very classrooms that we studied. We demonstrated how to handwash properly, how to bandage themselves and check their temperatures, being able to recognise certain medications and also being able to know when to go to a GP, stay at home or when a hospital visit is required. We prepared several resources to aid us with these sessions, allowing us to teach around 90 students within three hours. This would not have been possible without the support of the staff at the school who found us an appropriate date to hold the session. This was our first time hosting a workshop like this and it resulted in us being asked to come back multiple times a year going forward. It was such a great experience, and I cannot wait to do it all again. I thank my fellow future healthcare professionals, Vashika Yarlventhan, Rositha Kunenthiran and Gajane Gopal, for their hard work and commitment to such a project and I am excited to see where this takes us.
