I resigned from my first job after 3 years. My manager never called again. Not even once. I had spent those 3 years thinking we were more than just colleagues. Birthday wishes in the office. Team lunches. "We are family" written on the wall of the conference room. The day I submitted my resignation, everything changed. The lunches stopped. The check ins stopped. The "how are you doing" stopped. Last working day. Handshake. Good luck. Done. I am not bitter about it. I just wish someone had told me earlier. Your company is not your family. Your boss is not your parent. Your colleagues are not your brothers and sisters. And the moment you start treating them like they are, you stop asking for the raise you deserve. You stop calling out the behavior you should. You feel guilty leaving even when your career gets stagnant. When I resigned, more than 20 people said - let's stay in touch. Only 3 did. Those 3 are still my friends. The rest were just colleagues. Both are fine. But they are not the same thing. Be polite. Be professional. Do great work. Just do not let them replace your own family. #CorporateLife #ThankMeLater
