bsc biotech | junior @ AURAK

you know what’s worse than not placing? placing 4th. knowing you ALMOST had it but we roll regardless ;) on monday, i had the absolute honor to represent AURAK at the Emirates Environmental Group’s ICEPSC Day 1 - Fighting Climate Change & Biodiversity, alongside my team members: Aysha, Arshad, Christian & Patricia. i have not held a project so close to to my heart, as i did this one, especially with group members who are so ridiculously talented and passionate. while placing 4th was initially disappointing, i’ve always believed in looking at events in my life through an optimistic lens.
here’s my top 3 takeaways: 1. putting myself out there — public speaking is equally fun & nerve-wrecking. i, for the love of god could not remember my script when we were practicing before the competition, yet somehow managed to do it well on stage. 2. when you truly believe in an idea, you will automatically put your best foot forward, and that is the sentiment that carried AlgaGrove, our core idea for fighting climate change & biodiversity loss. 3. biotech solutions can make a huge impact on our current environmental efforts & the interconnection of both fields is fascinating. ofcourse, nothing is possible without the amazing faculty behind us. thank you Prof. Irshad Ahmad, for being our supervisor throughout this project, Dr. Saleha Al-Mardeai for her incredible support & the AURAK Biotechnology department for believing in us & AlgaGrove, especially Dr. Rawad Hodeify.
