Jim Pollock has spent decades building, leading and learning. After earning an electrical engineering degree from MIT, he worked at Hewlett-Packard for four years and went on to lead several start-ups, gaining valuable skills along the way. Pollock became good at finding the right idea and learned how to build and lead a team. Today, Jim is applying that experience to a new venture. He now heads his own team at LumenAstra, developing a sensor that can accurately measure brain temperature for the medical world, an advancement that could help doctors make more precise decisions during surgery and critical care. It can help prevent heat stroke in soldiers, firefighters and athletes. What motivates him hasn’t changed over the years: curiosity, problem-solving and the satisfaction of turning ideas into something tangible. The relationships he’s built over time continue to matter too, helping him connect with the right people and refine his work through real feedback. Jim’s story shows how experience isn’t something you leave behind; it’s something you carry forward, shaping meaningful work and impact at every stage.
