Can happiness be taught? Ashish Thapliyal believes so. At Aalto University Summer School, Thapliyl teaches the Happiness Science from Finland course. The course is built on the idea that we all care about our happiness and well-being, and these are skills that can be practised and developed. š” In the workplace, well-being is linked to productivity, employee turnover, and revenue. Thapliyl wanted to translate these learnings into something accessible and practical for everyone ā a course where people can learn, reflect and apply the knowledge to their own lives. What can you expect from the course? Most of the assignments involve reflection and self-application. Participants will explore the latest research on happiness, identify what truly matters in life and work, and design a happier life for themselves. The goal is simple ā not just to understand happiness, but to leave with practical insights and concrete steps to enhance it. š Finland provides an excellent setting for the course. In Finland, people enjoy a high level of autonomy, a strong work-life balance, flat hierarchies and a deep connection with nature ā all strong predictors of well-being. If you are curious about the science behind well-being, or you want to spend two weeks in Finland under the beautiful Nordic summer sun, the application period is now open until 31 May.
