A Room to Heal recently had the joy of completing our 7th project of the year for an incredible 7-year-old named Rowan. Rowan battled brain cancer for more than two years and continues to face many long-term effects from chemotherapy and radiation. Through it all, he remains a child with a big personality, a huge love for cars, and an amazing ability to identify vehicles by make and model. So, of course, his dream bedroom had to be all about cars and Hot Wheels. Rowan’s new bedroom includes a big, comfy bed, fresh paint, a refinished floor, new lighting, better storage and organization, a car rug, and car bedding. We also added more storage in his playroom for his Hot Wheels, monster trucks, and LEGO. And we couldn’t forget his cat, Mac and Cheese, who received a cheese-themed cat tree of his own. The timing made this reveal even more special because Rowan was getting ready to celebrate his 7th birthday. We are so grateful we could help give him a personalized space to enjoy during such a special week. This project was truly a community effort. Thank you to our program sponsors, Visions Federal Credit Union and Excellus BCBS, for helping make Rowan’s project possible. We are also grateful to Brushes Over Broome and Stevens Paint & Blinds for donating paint and labor; E W Gorman Electrical Contracting Inc. and Ruffo’s Hardwood Floor Refinishing for going above and beyond to help complete Rowan’s room in time for his birthday; and our wonderful volunteers Kathy Macri, Joe Wiegand, Kelly Klees, Virgil and Brian Sehn, and Patty and Linkoln Reid. Thank you to Sue Surgent for the adorable Hot Wheels/Monster Truck quilt, and to Merlin's Magic Wand for gifting Rowan and his family tickets to LEGOLAND New York. Finally, thank you to Ashley and Tyler for trusting us and giving us the opportunity to help your family. We are so grateful to have met you, Rowan. We hope your new room brings you as much joy as you bring to everyone who meets you. 💙 #ARoomToHeal #HealingSpaces #CommunityImpact #ChildhoodCancer #Nonprofit #Volunteerism #CommunitySupport
