His 1.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, the “TTE P01,” helped power McLaren to 12 wins in 1984 alone, and ultimately five World Championships with Lauda, Prost, and Senna. After the partnership ended in 1987, Porsche reportedly gifted McLaren a 930 Turbo fitted with the race engine—sparking legend and inspiration decades later. In homage to that mythical car, UK-based Lanzante built 11 bespoke 930 “TAG Turbos,” each using a documented Formula One engine from McLaren’s archive. These custom builds are extensively reengineered—each donor car stripped to bare metal, fitted with carbon fiber bodywork, and lightened by over 120 pounds. The Formula One engine alone sheds 286 pounds versus the factory 3.3L flat-six and is paired with a 6-speed H-pattern gearbox. The example offered, dubbed “AP87,” features engine #TTE P01 051, which powered Alain Prost at the 1986 German and 1987 Hungarian and Japanese Grands Prix. Built from a U.S.-delivered 1988 930 Turbo, it’s finished in Mintgrün with black leather and tartan inserts, gold RUF wheels, and just 311 miles since completion. Serviced in 2025 by Lanzante, it remains one of the most radical, road-going Porsches ever conceived. #classic #classics #classiccars #collectorcars #carcollectors #historic #vintage #performance #racing #rallying #driving #car #cars #automotiveindustry #auto #autos #autoindustry #auction #forsale #sold #automotive #investment #privatesale
