F.P. Journe is the independent that serious collectors tend to arrive at last, and understanding the brand is a lesson in what connoisseurs actually value. Three things set it apart. The movements are built from solid 18k rose gold rather than brass, a costly choice almost no one else makes. The mechanisms are genuinely invented, including the first wristwatch to harness resonance for timekeeping. And production is tiny, roughly 900 watches a year. Scarcity plus respect produces unusual economics. The Chronometre Bleu retails near $38,000 but trades between $190,000 and $210,000 pre-owned, and in June 2026 an early Chronometre a Resonance sold for $13.9 million, a record for any independent watchmaker.
