As The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) 2026 draws to a close, what stands out most are the conversations. Over the past few days in Perth, we’ve had the privilege of spending time with respiratory physicians in smaller, more focused discussions, where dialogue was open, practical, and deeply insightful. On Saturday evening, we brought together a group of clinicians for a dinner focused on what’s next in lung imaging. We were pleased to have Dr Kris Nilsen from 4DMedical share perspectives on emerging technologies, and how functional lung assessment from routine CT could shape future clinical practice. It was an opportunity to step away from the formal program and into a more candid exchange on where imaging is heading, and what that means to support clinical decision-making, at the coalface of care. From this clinical discussion to the many conversations at Stand 48, the themes were consistent: greater clarity in unexplained breathlessness and lung disease, a deeper understanding of regional lung function, and the opportunity for CT to go beyond structure, delivering quantified functional insights to support diagnosis, planning, and longitudinal care from a single scan. We learned a lot. And just as importantly, we were reminded that progress in respiratory care is shaped not just by technology, but by thoughtful, clinician-led dialogue. Thank you to everyone who took the time to connect, challenge, and share perspectives. We look forward to continuing the conversation beyond TSANZ. #TSANZ2026 #RespiratoryMedicine #LungHealth #MedicalImaging #ClinicalInnovation #4DMedical
