If you’ve applied for 50–100 jobs in Australia and heard nothing back… it’s probably not your skills. It’s how you’re going to market. I see this constantly. Good engineers. Decent experience. On a 485 or 482 dependant. With work rights getting shorter every day and no work. Sitting there applying for roles every day thinking: “Something will land.” Then 150 applications later… Nothing. No calls. No feedback. Just silence. Here’s the uncomfortable bit: The Australian hiring market is different. What’s worked for you before… often doesn’t work the same way here. 1. Your CV isn’t landing Not because it’s bad. Because it’s not built for how recruiters here scan. They’re not reading it properly. They’re skimming. If they can’t quickly see: what you do what tech you use what impact you’ve had you’re gone in 10 seconds. 2. You’re over-relying on job boards Seek + LinkedIn = crowded. You’re one of hundreds. Even strong candidates get ignored. The people getting traction are: messaging recruiters getting visible having actual conversations Not just clicking apply. 3. Your experience isn’t translating clearly This catches a lot of people out. Same skills… but it’s not always obvious how that maps locally. If you don’t clearly show: your individual contribution ownership real impact you get treated like a risk. And recruiters don’t take risks when they’ve got options. 4. You’re treating this like a slow process (This is the silent killer) If you’ve got 180 days (or less), this isn’t casual. The people who land quickly go hard for 60–90 days. Daily activity. Multiple angles. Constant tweaks. Not “apply and wait and hope”. We’ve had people come in with zero interviews after months of trying… …and start getting traction within a couple of weeks. Same person. Same skills. Different approach. If you’re on a 485, 482 dependant, or similar with work rights and it’s not moving…Take a step back. It’s probably not you. It’s how you’re playing the game here. What’s been the most frustrating part of your search so far? #TechJobsAustralia #482Visa #485Visa #SydneyJobs #DataCareers
