Woah! Monzo's going to Ibiza. (And the rest of Spain 🇪🇸) If you get that reference, we’re big fans. 🎶 According to reports, Monzo is launching in Spain. But are they late to the party? Spain definitely feels like a great market for Monzo: 👥 Large population 📱 Strong fintech adoption 🏦 Fewer bank branches than before But the reality is more complicated. In Spain, banking is still very human. Trust is built face-to-face. Not just through an app. And while branches have declined, people haven’t fully let go of them. As we've seen with the news that Revolut is opening a store in Barcelona. That creates a tension, right? Because unless you've been living under a fintech rock, you'll know that Monzo is purely digital. And it’s entering a market where: 🚀 Revolut is already scaled 🇩🇪 N26 is well established 🏛️ Incumbents are strong - and digital-first themselves But what we think is really interesting here is Monzo’s strategy. They’re not planning to launch fast. They’re not copying the UK. They want to start by listening, testing, and adapting. So... what do we think - smart move or a bit too late?
