🔭Neue Niedersachsen-Impuls-Professur für unsere Universität eingeworben! Das Land fördert die Berufung des renommierten Astrophysikers Richard I. Anderson auf eine Professur für Beobachtende #Kosmologie. Im Anschluss an die Förderphase übernimmt die Fakultät für Physik die Professur. Anderson soll an unserer Universität ein innovatives Forschungsprogramm an der Schnittstelle von stellarer #Astrophysik und beobachtender Kosmologie aufbauen, um der sogenannten „Hubble-Konstanten-Spannung“ auf den Grund zu gehen. Darüber hinaus wird er neue Ansätze zur spektroskopischen Untersuchung veränderlicher astronomischer Phänomene verfolgen. Mit der Niedersachsen-Impuls-Professur unterstützen das Niedersächsische Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur und die VolkswagenStiftung die niedersächsischen Hochschulen dabei, vielversprechende akademische Talente in frühen Karrierephasen für den #Wissenschaftsstandort Niedersachsen zu gewinnen oder zu halten. 📌Mehr erfahren: https://lnkd.in/eXJRhZPN ** 🔭 University secures Lower Saxony Impulse Professorship! The state is funding the appointment of renowned astrophysicist Richard I. Anderson to a professorship in observational #cosmology. Following the funding period, the Faculty of Physics will assume responsibility for the professorship. Anderson will establish an innovative research programme at our University at the interface between stellar #astrophysics and observational cosmology. The aim is to work towards resolving the still unexplained discrepancy in determining the Hubble constant, known as the “Hubble tension”. In addition, he will pursue new approaches to the spectroscopic investigation of variable astronomical phenomena. The Lower Saxony Impulse Professorship enables Lower Saxony’s Ministry of Science and Culture together with the VolkswagenStiftung to support universities in the region.
