Micro-Cap Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a rapidly growing architectural millwork and commercial interiors manufacturer seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Engineering and Drafting department.
Our client is an established custom manufacturing organization known for delivering complex, high-end commercial interior projects across the country. As the business continues to grow, they are investing in engineering leadership to improve processes, develop talent, and build scalable systems that support operational excellence.
This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing the Engineering and Drafting team while driving quality, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the engineering process. The Engineering Manager will work cross-functionally with Project Management, Production, Purchasing, and Field Operations to ensure engineering deliverables are accurate, fabrication-ready, and aligned with project schedules.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Engineering and Drafting team
- Establish departmental priorities, performance expectations, and accountability
- Balance workloads and develop team members through coaching and performance management
- Foster a culture of urgency, ownership, quality, and continuous improvement
Project Execution
- Oversee engineering activities from approved submittals through fabrication release
- Ensure production drawings are complete, accurate, and fabrication-ready
- Drive consistency in drafting standards, engineering practices, and detailing methods
- Simplify complex projects into efficient, buildable solutions
Process Improvement & Accountability
- Develop and implement engineering standards, SOPs, and quality review procedures
- Monitor engineering workflows, priorities, and bottlenecks
- Identify and resolve issues before they impact production, schedules, or profitability
- Build scalable systems that improve throughput, consistency, and overall department performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Project Management, Production, Purchasing, and Field Operations
- Improve constructability, fabrication efficiency, and engineering execution across projects
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the department's technical expert for engineering methods and fabrication processes
- Provide technical guidance on complex projects and mentor engineering staff
- Drive standardization and best practices across the engineering function
- Act as the final technical escalation point for engineering-related issues
Ideal Background
- 7+ years of experience in architectural millwork, casework, woodworking, manufacturing, construction, or a related industry
- Previous experience leading engineering, drafting, design, or technical teams
- Strong understanding of shop drawings, fabrication processes, construction documents, and project execution
- Experience developing engineering standards, workflows, and departmental processes
- Architectural millwork or commercial interiors experience strongly preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD required; experience with Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, and ERP/MRP systems (Innergy preferred) is strongly preferred
- Proven ability to coach teams, drive accountability, and improve operational performance
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
