Ethanol Trader Asia- F/H

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of the Ethanol Desk based in France, you take ownership of the ethanol Asian book of Tereos Commodities ethanol (fuel ethanol, B Grade, ENA). You are the desk's reference point on Asian ethanol markets and work in close coordination with the European and Brazilian offices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the Asia ethanol book (fuel grade, B Grade, ENA) and generate positive P&L.
  • Build origination flows of US, Brazilian and regional ethanol into Asia, structuring partnerships and destination players.
  • Build origination flow of Asian ethanols and structure partnerships with producers.
  • Capture growth from rising mandates - Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand - and secure market share and margins.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships.
  • Distribute B Grade and ENA to destination via a rented storage in Korea; optimise freight and combine cargoes to create value.
  • Source ENA from Pakistani when arbitrages open towards Asia/Europe.
  • Contribute to SAF / ATJ / Maritime project with local players.
  • Manage price, credit, freight and execution risk on physical contracts, and ensure group consistency.
  • Liaise with the European and Brazilian offices to keep ethanol S&D and mandate analysis accurate and up to date.
  • Report trading activity, positions and results accurately and on time.

Qualifications

  • Degree: University degree (Economics, Business, Engineering, Mathematics or related field).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in physical and derivatives commodities trading, ideally with exposure to Asian and/or US ethanol markets.
  • Languages: Fluent English essential; an Asian language is an asset.
  • Other: Proven track record in developing new markets and customer/producer relationships; willingness to travel within Asia.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of physical ethanol or oil trading, regulations and S&D dynamics.
  • Understanding of imports/export flows and arbitrages; freight optimisation and cargo combination.
  • Risk management (price, credit, freight, execution) and solid fundamental/market analysis.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills; able to represent the group with key clients and partners.
  • Trustworthiness, accuracy and timeliness in reporting; good feel for markets.
  • Able to handle pressure and change; disciplined, curious, autonomous and decisive; team player able to challenge and debate views.
