About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a capable Structural/ Mechanical Engineer to support engineering delivery within the Full Cycle Docking (FCD) program for the Collins Class submarines. Reporting to the Engineering Work Package Lead - Hull, you will provide structural engineering expertise across system, assembly and component‑level activities, supporting design, analysis, maintenance and sustainment outcomes.

Working as part of the FCD Engineering team, you will contribute to safe, compliant and efficient engineering solutions in a complex, safety‑critical environment, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to support submarine availability and performance

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural calculations and analysis, including FEA and hand calculations, to support maintenance and engineering decisions.
  • Deliver engineering work across system, assembly and component levels.
  • Review and verify design information, technical documentation and drawings.
  • Apply sound engineering judgement to develop safe, practical structural solutions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical reports and engineering documentation.
  • Support project delivery by contributing to scope, schedule and risk management activities.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant safety, regulatory and engineering standards.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and practices.

About you

  • Degree‑qualified engineer in Structural, Mechanical or a related discipline.
  • Experience in Non-destructive testing (NDT) highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation, standards and technical drawings.
  • Able to apply practical engineering judgement in a safety‑critical environment.
  • Effective communicator, able to clearly articulate technical information to stakeholders.
  • Strong report writing skills with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Able to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and project environments.
  • Experience in maintenance, sustainment or complex engineering programs is highly regarded.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
