Global Tooling Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Global Tooling Engineer to lead tooling programs from concept through production launch. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced tooling professional who thrives at the intersection of mold design, project management, scientific molding, medical device manufacturing, and customer collaboration

The Opportunity

As a Global Tooling Engineer, you will serve as the technical leader for a Medical and non-medical tooling programs, overseeing mold design, vendor selection, tool construction, validation activities, and production readiness. Working cross-functionally with multiple teams and directly with the customer you will ensure tooling solutions meet demanding quality, performance, and regulatory requirements. Details include:

Tooling Program Leadership

  • Lead tooling programs from initial quote through production release. This will include: Evaluating and selecting tooling suppliers globally
  • Drive mold design reviews to ensure designs meet customer and manufacturing requirements
  • Track mold construction progress and maintain project timelines
  • Provide objective evidence and documentation throughout the tooling life cycle
  • Mold Qualification & Validation
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT/T0) activities
  • Drive mold tuning and optimization to achieve print specifications and process capability targets
  • Support validation activities including IQ/OQ/PQ, Control Plan Development & PFMEA
  • Ensure smooth and successful transition of tooling into production
  • Technical Engineering Expertise
  • Evaluate plastic and steel tolerances and their impact on manufacturability
  • Apply GD&T knowledge and Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) analysis to tooling decisions
  • Utilize statistical methods to analyze process and dimensional data
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and provide actionable feedback to customers
  • Analyze cavity-to-cavity balance, mold performance and processing requirements

Required Qualifications & Technical Expertise

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or another related field is required while a BS is a plus
  • 2+ years of experience in plastics injection molding manufacturing with emphasis on mold and part design
  • Strong knowledge of advantages and disadvantages of materials including PC, PE, PP, ABS, TPE, PET, PVC, Silicones, Blends, filled materials, additives, colorants, moisture measurement, etc.Project management experience
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • GD&T and dimensional analysis
  • Design for Manufacturing
  • (DFM)Statistical analysis and process capability
  • Solid knowledge with MS Office tools and have knowledge of CAD software for model design reviews
  • Mold qualification and validation processes

Preferred Experience

  • Medical device manufacturing including part sterilization, post molding operations and DOE, along with knowledge of PFMEA, FAT/T0, IQ/OQ/PQ is a big plus
  • Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Experience with EOAT, Class 101 molds and assisting in the assembly, maintenance and improvement of tooling
