The hourly rate for this position ranges from $15.77 to $15.77. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

Performs routine manual work involving cleaning and housekeeping duties within university buildings, dormitories, and food service areas. Responsibilities include conducting janitorial and housekeeping tasks in alignment with established work routines and cleanliness standards.

Essential Functions

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, apply appropriate cleaning chemicals, and replenish supplies
  • Clean, dust, and disinfect areas including restrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
  • Perform general custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming; scrub tile, floors, stairways, hallways, shower and locker rooms, and lobbies; wax and polish floors, wash windows, and clean furniture and office equipment.
  • Collect and properly dispose of trash and recyclable materials.
  • Operate custodial equipment including vacuums, buffers/burnishers, scrubbers, commercial cleaning machines and extractors.
  • Promote energy conservation by ensuring lights are turned off in classrooms, offices, and other areas.
  • Inspect buildings for cleanliness and needed repairs; identify and report maintenance issues requiring work orders, such as light bulb replacement, lock adjustments, carpet repair, broken glass, ceiling tile replacement, and other hazards.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of six (6) months experience in cleaning buildings or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience performing cleaning and housekeeping duties in higher education or similar commercial settings preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to effectively execute oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed. Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor. Ability to walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stand, sit, kneel, and squat.
  • Ability to accurately perform all phases of duties assigned.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial methods and materials. Ability to accurately perform all phases of duties assigned.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use maintenance and janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies. Proficient in the use, care and maintenance of basic janitorial equipment including buckets, mops, automatic floor scrubbers, floor buffers, shop vacuums, and upright vacuum cleaners

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday; 5:00pm to 1:30am
  • Beginning on August 17,2026: Monday through Friday 3:30pm to 12:00am

Working Conditions

  • May work in all weather conditions.
  • May work around chemicals.
  • Essential position; may be required to report during campus emergencies.
