Seeking a manual machinist operator to be able to do sets up, maintain traditional, non-computerized equipment (like lathes, mills, and grinders) to shape metal or plastic parts, turn blueprints into precision components by relying on precise hand-eye coordination, math skills, and calibrated measuring tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Set up and operate manual machines such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and surface grinders.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Precision Machining: Select cutting tools and precisely adjust feeds, speeds, and depths of cut to shape raw materials into finished parts.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to ensure they meet exact specifications.
- Maintenance: Maintain manual machinery by routinely cleaning, lubricating, and making minor mechanical repairs.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness.
- Proficiency in shop mathematics and geometry.
- Extensive knowledge of machining techniques (turning, boring, threading, facing).
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Educational & Experience Requirements
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, alongside vocational/technical school training or a completed industry apprenticeship.
- Experience: 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in a machine shop or industrial manufacturing environment are frequently expected.
