Role Description The Professor role at Kyoto University is a full-time, on-site position based in Kyoto. The professor will design and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses, develop syllabi, supervise student projects and theses, and provide academic advising. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting independent and collaborative research, publishing in peer-reviewed venues, pursuing external research funding, and participating in academic conferences. The professor will also contribute to departmental administration, serve on university committees, collaborate with colleagues across disciplines, and engage in outreach and international academic exchange activities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching, including curriculum development, student supervision, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
  • Strong research record with peer-reviewed publications, evidence of ongoing scholarly activity, and potential or experience in securing research funding.
  • Advanced academic credentials, typically a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to work in a culturally diverse and international academic environment.
  • Commitment to ethical research, academic integrity, and contribution to departmental and university service, including committee work and outreach.
  • Proficiency in English for teaching and research; ability or willingness to develop proficiency in Japanese is an advantage.
