What can I expect to do in this role?

Under general direction, you will provide field engineering repair and support to all technology pillars within Infrastructure Services. You will all provide technical guidance to end user personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides infield technical diagnostic troubleshooting/service/repair/installation including but not limited to:
  • Repair Services (in vehicle repair for Mobile Workstation (MWS), ICC (In Car Camera), mobile & portable radio, radio chargers, radio programming, BWC (body worn cameras).
  • Networking(patching, port configuration, device turn-up, cable testing, data jack repair, Wi-Fi/Lan, equipment and equipment components).
  • Voice Services (phone repair/replacement, and equipment moves and changes; building paging repair, equipment and equipment components).
  • CCTV/AV (CCTV camera microphone, troubleshooting/repair/replace equipment and equipment components).
  • Provides support for remote and onsite testing, maintenance and installation of IT/Telecommunications infrastructure and equipment and equipment components.
  • Identifies potential system problems and confers with technical experts and colleagues to formulate solution(s) using approved processes and procedures.
  • Provides service support to address end user needs in a timely manner.
  • Provides on-site support for any equipment and equipment components additions, changes & moves.
  • Uses test equipment and analyzers in the support/repair of the different technology pillars within Infrastructure Services.
  • Provides onsite access and support to external vendors as required.
  • Develops and provides input for technical documentation and procedures.
  • Utilizes Asset management and work order software for recording services performed and updating maintenance records of assets.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and equipment components, as required.
  • May be required to provide technical guidance to end user personnel.
  • Maintains technical knowledge of trends and products.
  • Maintains cleanliness of infrastructure equipment and areas.
  • Performs typical duties inherent to the position or other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • University or College Degree/Diploma in Information Technology, Engineering, technologist, network, radio or related IT field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • A minimum 3 years of field engineering technical support experience.
  • Experience with Asset management software and asset/work order functionality.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Knowledgeable (or willing/capable of learning) in the support of:
  • P.25 Astro Mobile and Portable Radios as well in-vehicle technology equipment such as MWS (Mobile Workstation and its peripherals), Radar, ICC (In-Car Camera) and BWC (Body Worn Camera).
  • TCP/IP networking fundamentals including basic switch configuration, security protocols and web technologies.
  • IP Voice and CCTV/AV end points (phones, cameras, monitors, workstations).
  • Microsoft Windows/Servers and its corresponding architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform system-level/end point troubleshooting and technical hardware modifications.
  • Physically able to perform manual labor tasks, able to work in confined spaces, and capable of performing services using ladders and lifts.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid Class G Driver s license in good standing and have or are capable of obtaining a Toronto Police Service Blue Card and driving capability with all weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to be on call for after-hours (e.g. weekend) technical support on a rotating basis.

Probation Period:

6 months
