Tech Lead - Fullstack (Java + Angular)
Location: Remote, 100% (candidates must be based in Portugal)
Language requirement: English C1 (written and spoken)
About the Role
We're looking for a Tech Lead who can own the technical direction of a full-stack application while staying close to the client. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll guide a development team through Java and Angular delivery, run the technical conversation with stakeholders, and keep the project moving inside a SAFe framework. If you like building things and building people at the same time, this is the seat for you.
What You'll Do
- Lead the technical design and architecture of a Java (Spring Boot) backend and Angular frontend, end-to-end.
- Guide and mentor a full-stack development team, setting technical standards and reviewing code where it matters.
- Act as the main technical point of contact for the client, translating business needs into engineering decisions and explaining trade-offs clearly.
- Work within a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) setup, contributing to PI planning, sprint reviews, and cross-team alignment.
- Balance hands-on coding with team leadership, staying close enough to the code to make good calls.
- Identify risks early and solve them before they become blockers.
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot in production environments.
- Solid experience with Angular on the frontend.
- Proven experience leading technical teams as a Tech Lead, Lead Developer, or similar.
- Experience delivering projects in payments or banking, with an understanding of the sector's regulatory and security demands.
- Working knowledge of SAFe and comfort operating in a scaled agile setup.
- Client-facing experience: you can hold a technical conversation with a client, not just with your team.
- English at C1 level - this project runs in English day to day.
- Based in Portugal and available to work fully remote.
Nice to Have
- Experience in international, multi-team or distributed delivery environments.
- Familiarity with payment standards or protocols (e.g. PSD2, ISO 20022, PCI DSS) or core banking systems.
- Certifications in SAFe (SAFe Practitioner, SAFe Scrum Master, or similar).
- Background in consulting or client-facing technical delivery.
