The Organization

Scarborough Health Network is a leading community teaching health network, consisting of three hospitals (Scarborough General, Birchmount and Centenary) and eight satellite sites in Scarborough, one of the most diverse communities in Canada. The Foundation works with generous donors, volunteers and community members to raise funds for state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure and medical technology to support the Hospital’s mission to improve lives through exceptional care.

SHN Foundation is raising the profile of our hospitals through the Love, Scarborough marketing and fundraising campaign. The extraordinary success of Love, Scarborough has generated widespread awareness, inspired transformational gifts, and shone a needed spotlight on healthcare inequities and gaps in Scarborough. The Foundation has experienced significant growth across staff, events, donations, media coverage and partnerships. It’s an exciting time to join the Foundation as it continues to build on this momentum and moves into the next phase of the campaign.

The Opportunity

To support Scarborough Health Network’s vision of becoming Canada’s leading teaching community health network, Scarborough Health Network Foundation is advancing a transformative, comprehensive campaign raising both capital and program funding, which has already achieved a significant milestone of $200 million raised in its first phase.

As the campaign enters its next stage, the Foundation is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join the organization as Vice President, Marketing & Communications. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this role will build on the momentum of the award‑winning Love, Scarborough campaign, and lead the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy.

The Vice President is accountable for the strategic leadership, performance, and resource stewardship of the Foundation’s marketing and communications function. The Vice President will play a critical role in elevating the Foundation’s profile, deepening engagement with donors and partners, and driving fundraising success; positioning Scarborough Health Network as a leading destination for

philanthropic support both within the community and across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. This role represents a unique opportunity to shape how marketing and communications drives engagement and philanthropic growth across the full donor pipeline, in close partnership with a high-performing and collaborative leadership team.

Key Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, brand, communications or related disciplines, including significant experience in a senior leadership or executive role within a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing integrated marketing, brand and communications strategies that drive measurable outcomes, including audience growth, engagement, reputation and revenue.
  • Experience leading large-scale brand platforms and campaigns with the ability to translate strategy into impact across multiple channels and audiences.
  • Strong strategic orientation with a proven ability to link brand and marketing efforts to organizational or business outcomes.
  • Experience working closely with executive leadership and boards, providing counsel on brand, communications, reputation management and complex or high-profile issues.
  • Exceptional storytelling and narrative development capability, with a track record of translating complex organizational priorities into compelling, audience-centric messages that inspire engagement and action.
  • Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to write clear, engaging and creative copy for a variety of purposes and audiences.
  • Deep expertise across digital strategy, donor/audience growth, content ecosystems, media relations and stakeholder engagement, with strong command of data, insights and performance optimization.
  • Experience overseeing and maximizing value from external agency and partner ecosystems (creative, digital, media), ensuring alignment with strategy, innovation and measurable impact.
  • Strong understanding of full-funnel engagement strategies, including acquisition, engagement, retention and value growth across diverse audiences.
  • Highly developed relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including senior executives, board members, partners and community leaders.
  • A collaborative, inclusive leadership style, with demonstrated success building, leading and scaling high-performing teams in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong business acumen, judgment and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to balance strategic vision and execution in complex environments.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and an appreciation for the needs and strengths of diverse communities.
  • Experience in healthcare, philanthropy, public sector, or other purpose-driven organizations is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting or leading annual giving, direct response, or mass/individual giving programs, with an understanding of how marketing and communications strategies drive revenue, donor acquisition, retention and donor value.
  • Familiarity with modern marketing, digital and collaboration tools and platforms including CRM, marketing automation, content and project management systems. Experience with platforms such as HubSpot, Asana, Webflow, Adobe Creative Cloud or similar environments is considered an asset.
