Position Summary

The Consultant Obstetrics & Gynecology – Head of Department (HOD) is responsible for providing exemplary clinical care in Obstetrics and Gynecology while leading the strategic, operational, academic, and quality functions of the department across SEHA Clinics. The role ensures the delivery of safe, patient-centered, evidence-based healthcare services in alignment with SEHA's mission, regulatory requirements, and international best practices.

The HOD will lead multidisciplinary teams, promote clinical excellence, drive quality improvement initiatives, oversee departmental performance, and support the development of women's health services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient Obstetrics and Gynecology consultation services.
• Diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of gynecological and obstetrical conditions.
• Perform and interpret relevant diagnostic procedures and investigations.
• Develop individualized treatment and management plans based on evidence-based guidelines.
• Manage high-risk pregnancies and complex gynecological cases within the scope of practice.
• Ensure continuity of care through appropriate referrals and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation in the electronic medical record system.
• Promote preventive healthcare and women's wellness programs.

Leadership & Management Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department across assigned SEHA Clinics.
• Develop and implement departmental strategic plans, objectives, and service improvement initiatives.
• Monitor departmental productivity, quality indicators, patient outcomes, and operational performance.
• Ensure adequate staffing levels and workforce planning.
• Participate in recruitment, credentialing, onboarding, and retention of medical staff.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and professional development opportunities.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Quality & Patient Safety

• Ensure compliance with Department of Health (DoH), SEHA, JCI, and other relevant regulatory standards.
• Lead clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Review and investigate clinical incidents, complaints, and adverse events.
• Participate in root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and patient satisfaction metrics.
• Promote a culture of patient safety and clinical excellence.

Academic & Educational Responsibilities

• Mentor physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Facilitate continuing medical education (CME) activities within the department.
• Participate in research, clinical audits, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Encourage professional development and knowledge sharing among team members.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Develop departmental policies, protocols, and clinical pathways.
• Participate in hospital and clinic committees as required.
• Manage departmental budgets and resource utilization effectively.
• Collaborate with other departments to optimize patient flow and service delivery.
• Support accreditation and regulatory inspection activities.

Qualifications

Education

• Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
• Completion of accredited Residency Training in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
• Recognized Specialist Qualification in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Professional Certification

Must meet Department of Health (DoH) Abu Dhabi requirements for Consultant licensure, including one of the following:

• Arab Board in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
• American Board Certification.
• Canadian Fellowship (RCPSC).
• UK CCT/CESR.
• Australian Fellowship (FRANZCOG).
• European Board Certification or equivalent recognized qualification.

Experience

• Minimum 8–10 years of post-board experience as a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
• Minimum 3–5 years of leadership or managerial experience as Department Head, Clinical Lead, Section Head, or equivalent.
• Experience in ambulatory, outpatient, or integrated healthcare settings is preferred.
• Experience in quality improvement, accreditation, and clinical governance initiatives.
