3D Artist (Hard Surface)

8Bit - Games Industry Recruitment

European Union

Description

Our client is a small, profitable indie studio behind a beloved factory and automation game currently in early access on Steam. They’re bootstrapped, fully remote, and have been steadily building and expanding their game for over four years with plans to keep going for years to come.

They’re looking for a Senior 3D Artist to join a team of 8 across the US and Europe.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create animated, game-ready 3D models and textures for factory equipment, vehicles, chemical plants, ships, buildings, and other industrial assets.
  • Improve and polish existing models and textures to enhance the overall visual quality of the game.
  • Prepare optimised low-poly assets based on high-poly models.
  • Create assets with LODs and performance constraints in mind from the beginning.
  • Produce realistic textures that fit the established visual style of the game.
  • Create and export Unity-ready FBX files, including animations where needed.
  • Work with key-frame, morph, and bone-based animations.
  • Prototype different visual ideas quickly and adapt based on feedback.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of professional experience in the games industry as a 3D Artist.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing game-ready models and textures.
  • Solid modeling and texturing skills, including albedo, normal, specular, and metallic maps.
  • Experience creating optimized game-ready assets with reduced vertex count.
  • Experience baking high-poly models into textures for low-poly models.
  • Good understanding of LOD creation and asset optimization.
  • Strong texturing skills and experience with tools such as Substance.
  • Ability to create realistic textures with meaningful material definition.
  • Experience creating pre-baked AO, normal maps, specular/metallic maps, and emissive textures.
  • Ability to export clean FBX files that import correctly into Unity.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Interest in simulation, automation, factory-building, or industrial-themed games.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

A small indie studio of 8 people, spread across the US and Europe (UK, Germany, Italy, Czechia).

They’ve been profitable and bootstrapped from day one, building a simulation game with a dedicated player community. The team is lean, moves with ownership, and values direct communication over bureaucracy.

The game is in early access and expected to stay there for at least 3 more years – this is a long-term project, not a crunch-and-ship setup.

Team size: 8 people

Work mode: Fully remote

Engine: Unity

Platform: PC
