About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Software Engineer to join our dynamic team within the Editorial Workflows division, focusing on brands such as Stern, GEO, and Capital. In this role, you will be integral to the transformation from traditional print to digital media, working closely with a team of 30 tech professionals across five development squads. Your primary responsibilities will include maintaining and enhancing applications responsible for content creation, distribution, and monetization. You will collaborate with stakeholders from product management and DevOps to develop innovative solutions, ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our services. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to influence architectural decisions, lead technical initiatives, and mentor colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. This position offers a unique chance to contribute to the future of digital journalism and media technology within a forward-thinking organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess at least five years of experience in software development and operations, particularly in backend solutions within agile environments. You should have excellent expertise in JVM-based programming languages such as Java and Kotlin, along with proficiency in frameworks like Spring Boot. Hands-on experience with unit testing, test automation, and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as ArgoCD and GitlabCI is essential. You should be familiar with various persistence solutions, including MySQL, MongoDB, and AWS S3, as well as modern container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. Knowledge of monitoring and alerting tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana, as well as Infrastructure-as-Code solutions like Terraform, is highly desirable. Fluency in German (C1 level) and good English skills (B2 level) are required. Strong communication skills, a pragmatic hands-on approach, and a high-quality mindset are key attributes for success in this role.
Responsibilities
You will actively participate as a proactive member of an agile, interdisciplinary development team, working closely with product managers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders to design and implement new features and enhancements for our content management and delivery systems. Your responsibilities include making architectural decisions aligned with the overall technical strategy, ensuring the operational stability of your services through effective monitoring and incident management, and leading the technical execution of initiatives. You will contribute to refining and improving development processes, fostering a collaborative team environment, and mentoring colleagues to support their professional growth. Additionally, you will oversee the deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of backend services, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security across all platforms.
