About Us

SC Gjøa Youth Soccer (pronounced YO-ah) is a non-profit founded in 1911 by Norwegian immigrants in Brooklyn, NY. We’re the oldest club in NYC and quite possibly the country, with a long and storied history in US soccer. We have 30 girls and boys Travel Soccer teams.

Job Description

As a Travel Soccer Head Coach at SC Gjøa you will be responsible for the following:

  • Leading and developing youth players via weekday practices and weekend games and activities for players of varying ages and skill levels
  • Promoting a love and appreciation of the game through engaging and enjoyable training sessions that maximize technical work and creativity
  • Managing team communications and scheduling for 4 Travel Soccer teams under your direction
  • Sharing development feedback with players and parents
  • Being a positive role model in areas such as positive communication, honesty, respect, fair play, and team spirit
  • Continuing your advancement as a coach through staff training and professional development

Qualifications

  • Experience as a travel soccer coach, preferably 3 years or more
  • Holder of a USSF C license or equivalent
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to manage administrative tasks and communicate effectively
  • Must be able to legally work in USA (the club does not offer visas)

  • A one year contract from September 2026 through August 2027 (please inquire about work for Summer 2026 if interested)
  • Starting at $60,000 a year base salary, paid over the full 12 months
  • Minimum of 5-6 weeks paid vacation per year, including numerous holidays
