We are looking for a passionate and proactive Product Design Development Engineer to join our amazing team.
The Product Design Development Engineer will bring strong organizational and communication skills, a hands-on mentality, and a structured approach to managing multiple priorities. The role requires someone proactive, detail-oriented, and ready to collaborate across departments in an international environment.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
As Product Design Engineer, you will support in re-shaping the Product design function at Britax by bringing structure to the organisation in its implementation of NPD and VA/VE projects. Additionally , the Product Design Engineer will assist with internal and external CAD resources; including design review activities, creation & maintenance of 2D and 3D data, maintenance of PDM software, BOM management and data releasing to 3rd parties. This role requires proven 3D modelling capability of plastics and mechanical devices to meet the requirements of the engineering specification and US and international design regulations.
Duties & Accountabilities
• Develop & engineer high quality product designs.
• Handle Internal and external CAD resources as required by project.
• Assisting the migration of the current CAD system to a recognised PDM system ensuring ‘Best
Practice’ structure in the implementation of CAD engineering applications.
• Perform engineering work related to configuring, deploying, maintaining & upgrading CAD models.
• Produce designs that meet targets for feasibility, performance, costs, quality, safety, regulations &
timing.
• Ensure that all work carried out is in compliance with company design, safety, quality & regulatory compliance & procedural standards.
• Interact with cross functional team to obtain design definition and requirements to complete the
project within intended timeframe.
• Assist in improving daily processes to ensure that CAD systems meet company requirements.
• Determine limitations, assumptions & solutions in the design & development product designs.
FMEA analysis & VA/VE.
• Determine design specifications and parameters for product designs.
Competencies, Knowledge & Skills
Key Skills Required
• Proficient in the use of CAD design tool (Solidworks or Equivalent packages) and ability to read and evaluate engineering drawings and designs.
• Logical and analytical approach to problem solving.
• Ability to visualize 2 dimensional images in 3 dimensions.
• Ability to interpret design concepts to insure Manufacturability, Fit/Function, Safety, Structural
Integrity, Quality, and Ease of Assembly. Must possess a skill set in sketching, concept
presentation, and Computer Aided Design.
• Understanding of tool design, injection moulded component manufacture and metal part design.
• Ability to work cohesively with a broad range of employees (Industrial Designers, R&D Technicians, Product Engineers, Department Managers, and Director of Product Development).
• Effective listening and communication skills.
• Strong self -management organizational skills.
• Enjoy working in a team environment.
Knowledge & Experience
• Demonstrated understanding of Product Design as it relates to Consumer Value.
• Must have demonstrated experience in migrating CAD from a windows based file storage system to a recognised PDM system, Autodesk Vault etc.
• Pro E / Creo or other 3D CAD system experience (Minimum 4-5 years).
• Experience in working with plastics, metal, and other materials while designing stylish innovative
consumer products is an advantage.
• Experience with working in multi-disciplinary design teams
• Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in product design within the ‘consumer products’ or ‘automotive’
industries.
• Background in tool design would be highly regarded.
