Substation Physical Designer

JCW Group has partnered with an award-winning, employee-owned engineering consulting firm to place a Substation Physical Designer supporting substation projects for utility and industrial clients nationwide. This role sits at the intersection of design and drafting, translating engineering direction and calculations into substantially complete drawing packages from concept through construction.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Create equipment plans, elevations, conduit/trench plans, grounding plans, installation details, bills of material, and conduit schedules for substation projects
  • Perform NESC clearance and spacing checks, IEEE 80 grounding calculations, IEEE 605 bus calculations, and IEEE 998/NFPA 780 lightning protection calculations
  • Develop general arrangements, plans, and elevations from one-line diagrams, coordinating with civil, structural, and foundation disciplines throughout

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of relevant substation design experience, or equivalent ability to perform essential duties
  • Certificate or Associate's degree in CADD, drafting, engineering technology, or a related field
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microstation, with thorough knowledge of bus configurations, major equipment, conductors, hardware, and RUS design guide fundamentals
