The SGL Carbon facility in Morganton belongs to the Business Unit Graphite Solutions and employs around 100 local employees. At the site we manufacture extruded graphite for a range of applications from aluminum production to alternative energy concepts such as the hydrogen industry. In addition, the site also produced porous graphite which is a key element for the equipment required to produce silicon carbide crystals – the basis for innovative microchips for steering electric vehicles, charging stations, 5G networks, and mobile production controls.
Summary of Job Content:
Ensures the maintaining and continuous development of the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 and, where applicable, other relevant regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM) at the Morganton site, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and current state-of-the-art practices.
Promotes a culture of quality by fostering awareness, engagement, competency, and continuous improvement throughout the organization to enhance process effectiveness and efficiency.
Leads the local Quality Management and Operational Management System (OMS) organizations and provides methodological support and expertise to other functions in Quality Management and SGL process improvement methodologies.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage local Quality Management and OMS organization (including training, coaching and supporting activities). Direct site QA/QC testing laboratory operations.
- Organize structure and analyze material and product related production data to reduce quality problems.
- Reporting quality related topics monthly to the Site Management and to the Global Quality Management.
- Accountable for customer and supplier complaints regarding quality related issues.
- Aligning testing/quality activities and agreements and their execution with customers and suppliers.
- Fostering and enhancing the local Quality Management in close collaboration with the Global Quality Management of BU GMS.
- Manage and administer all local Controlled Documents in close cooperation with the respective document owner.
- Coordinate, executing, and analyzing internal and external System and Process Audits, as well as Supplier and Customer audits; follow-up audit measures and verifying the effectiveness.
- Foster project landscape for site to ensure ongoing improvement activities/projects in cooperation with Site Management.
- Identifying efficiency potentials together with process owners and ensuring utilization of the best improvement methodology (LEAN, Kaizen, Six Sigma project, Continuous Improvement method, etc.); coaching project managers (Green Belts, Lean Administrators).
- Manage and administer all local Controlled Documents in close cooperation with the respective document owner.

Skills:
- Strong managerial, communication, organizational and people skills
- In depth knowledge of statistical tools (e.g. Minitab)
- Six Sigma Methodology / LEAN management
Experiences:
- Engineering Degree (4yr) preferred
- A minimum of 5 years in process industry
- Graphite industry and associated processes
- Certified Green Belt or Black Belt
- A minimum of 3-5 yrs experience in Quality Management, ISO 9001
- Qualification “Quality Manager” (ASQ/EOQ)
- Optional qualification “Certified Internal/External Quality Auditor “
