Job Brief:

The Environmental Superintendent is responsible for managing environmental compliance, protecting natural resources, and ensuring operations meet regulatory and company standards. It’s a senior role that combines technical knowledge, leadership, and regulatory oversight.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

1. Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with local regulations (e.g., Saudi regulations by Saudi National Center for Environmental Compliance) and international standards like ISO 14001

Manage permits, licenses, and environmental approvals

Liaise with regulators and government authorities

2. Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Implement and maintain EMS aligned with ISO 14001

Develop environmental procedures, policies, and KPIs

Conduct audits and inspections

3. Monitoring & Reporting

Monitor air emissions, water discharge, and waste management

Prepare environmental reports (monthly, annual, regulatory)

Track environmental performance indicators (e.g., emissions, spills, waste volumes)

4. Spill Prevention & Incident Response

Develop and maintain spill prevention plans

Lead environmental response during incidents (oil spills, chemical releases)

Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis

5. Waste & Pollution Control

Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling and disposal

Ensure proper treatment of produced water and drilling waste

Promote pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives

6. Environmental Risk Assessment

Identify environmental risks in operations (drilling, production, pipelines)

Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

Recommend mitigation measures

8. Stakeholder Engagement

Interface with internal departments and communicate with external stakeholders, regulators, and communities

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree chemical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in environmental roles within oil & gas
  • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Certificate
  • NEBOSH Environmental Certificate
  • HSE certifications
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Risk assessment and incident investigation
  • Leadership and team management
  • Data analysis and reporting
  • Communication and stakeholder management
