Job Overview:
The Mechanical Drafter/Designer role is aligned within the Product Development discipline and is primarily focused on creating and maintaining mechanical drawings, models, and documentation that support new product development and existing product changes. Reporting to Engineering, you will collaborate with Engineers, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to translate design concepts and engineering direction into accurate 2D drawings and 3D models. Responsibilities include producing and revising CAD models and drawings, maintaining drawing and part documentation, and supporting document control and product lifecycle processes.
Essential Duties:
- Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks based on engineering direction and design intent.
- Prepare detailed part and assembly drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and notes, in accordance with company drafting standards and GD&T practices.
- Revise existing drawings and models to reflect engineering changes, ensuring accuracy and consistency across documentation.
- Collaborate with Engineers and Product Management to translate design concepts, sketches, and specifications into manufacturable drawings.
- Support the creation and maintenance of bills of material (BOMs) associated with drawings and models.
- Assist with document control activities, including managing drawing revisions, approvals, and release processes.
- Maintain organized and accurate drawing files and part numbering within the company's PLM or document management system.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing and Quality to resolve drawing discrepancies and support first-article and production builds.
- Support the creation of assembly instructions, work instructions, and other technical documentation as needed.
- Create 3D product renderings within Blender and vector product illustrations within Adobe Illustrator.
- Assist with converting legacy or supplier-provided drawings and models into standard company formats.
- Perform basic interference checks and fit/tolerance reviews on assemblies as directed by Engineering.
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary designs and documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or technical school diploma/certificate in Mechanical Design, Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related field; an engineering degree is not required.
- 1-3 years of experience creating mechanical drawings and 3D models in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge of drafting standards, dimensioning, and tolerancing practices (GD&T).
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, molding, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly.

- Extensive knowledge of PC and Windows software to include Microsoft Office products.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
- Experience with document control processes, including revision control and drawing release workflows.
- Exposure to injection molded, machined, or sheet metal component design.
- Familiarity with material and finish call-outs for plastic and metal components.
- Experience with SAP.
- Exposure to manufacturing or production environments.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Full-time position.
Reporting in person to office location in Suwanee, GA.
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel
The position requires minimal travel, primarily domestic and typically local.
Physical Demands
Position requires the use of hands – twisting, pulling, and pushing. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
