What you’ll own:

As a Staff Engineer, on the DevEx Team at LoanPro, you will be instrumental in defining and enhancing the Developer Experience (DevEx) across our engineering organization. Your primary focus will be on developing and maintaining essential tools, libraries, and frameworks that empower Product Engineers in their daily work. You will proactively build shared services, including CI/CD tools, security policy enforcement, monitoring, and logging tools. By treating these tools as internal products, you will prioritize usability and adoption, driven by a deep understanding of our engineers' needs. Your success will directly contribute to measurable improvements in developer productivity, faster time-to-market, enhanced standardization, increased reliability, and reduced operational costs, leveraging metrics like DORA. You will also be at the forefront of integrating AI-related tooling, such as Spec-Driven Development and AI Code Review, reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering, AI & DevEx.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Define, design, and advocate for the adoption of internal platform products (tools, libraries, and frameworks) to enhance the efficiency, quality, and velocity of Product Engineers, with a focus on enabling resilient CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for rapid and secure software delivery.
  • Establish and enforce security policies and best practices within the development lifecycle, automating compliance checks and vulnerability scanning.
  • Drive the standardization of technology choices, architectural patterns, and engineering practices across the organization to reduce complexity and foster consistency.
  • Define the platform roadmap and prioritize initiatives by proactively engaging with Product Engineering teams to gather feedback and analyze key Developer Experience (DevEx) and delivery performance metrics, utilizing frameworks like DORA.
  • Implement cutting-edge AI-related tooling and methodologies, such as Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and AI-powered Code Review, in collaboration with the AI & DevEx leadership.
  • Serve as a senior mentor, guiding other engineers in best practices for platform usage, service ownership, and operational excellence.

What you'll need for success:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years focused on engineering, infrastructure, or developer experience (DevEx).
  • Expert proficiency in one or more of the company's primary backend languages (Clojure, Python, Javascript, or Go) and a strong understanding of others.
  • Solid understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) principles and experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to define, develop, and maintain internal tools, SDKs, or frameworks to enhance developer productivity.
  • Proficient in using version control systems, specifically Git and GitHub (e.g., repository management, branching strategies, pull request workflows).
  • Awareness of design patterns, architectural principles (e.g., microservices, event-driven architecture), and API design best practices (REST, GraphQL/CQRS).
  • Experience with security best practices in the SDLC, including vulnerability scanning and policy enforcement.
  • Excellent communication and mentorship skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional adoption of new technologies and standards.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

  • Deep hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, EKS/ECS, IAM, VPC networking).
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing GitHub Workflows and Actions for robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with AI-related tooling and methodologies such as Spec-Driven Development (SDD) or Kiro.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A strong advocate for automation, clean architecture, and operational excellence, viewing platform tools as mission-critical internal products.
  • Possesses a deep commitment to data-driven decision-making (leveraging metrics like DORA) to guide platform strategy and measure success.
  • Excited by the future of AI in software development, eager to pioneer and integrate new tooling and methodologies (e.g., AI Code Review) into the engineering workflow.

Benefits of the Role:

  • 80% Medical/Dental
  • PTO and Holiday Schedule
  • HSA and 401K Match
