Company Description USA Unify 501(c)(4) and Progressive Power are social welfare political organizations dedicated to defending democracy and resisting tyranny, fascism, and inequality. The organizations advocate for Democrats, equality, science, diversity, and progressive policies that serve communities across the United States. Founded in 2016 by Michael Winner and a colleague, USA Unify and its affiliated initiatives work to empower people through civic engagement and public education. The organizations operate primarily online, using digital platforms and grassroots strategies to mobilize supporters and advance their mission.

Role Description The Board Member (Virtual) role is a remote volunteer position focused on strategic governance, oversight, and advocacy for USA Unify 501(c)(4) and Progressive Power. On a regular basis, Board Members participate in virtual board meetings, review organizational plans and budgets, and provide guidance on campaigns, partnerships, and community outreach. The role includes collaborating with other board members on long-term strategy, risk assessment, and organizational policies, as well as supporting fundraising initiatives and donor engagement. Board Members may also represent the organization in virtual events, contribute to public statements, and help strengthen networks with aligned organizations and community leaders.

Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit or social welfare governance, including board service, strategic planning, and policy oversight.
  • Background in civic engagement, political organizing, advocacy, or community outreach, with alignment to democratic and progressive values.
  • Skills in leadership, collaboration, and decision-making, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team.
  • Strong communication abilities, including clear written and verbal communication and comfort participating in virtual meetings.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used for remote collaboration, fundraising, and public engagement.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity, and willingness to support an environment that welcomes varied perspectives.
  • Prior experience with fundraising, donor relations, or campaign strategy is beneficial.
  • Ability to dedicate consistent volunteer time each month and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all board activities.
