Role Description The Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in Mitchell, SD, responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations and financial reporting. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing the general ledger, preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and ensuring accuracy in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes. The Controller monitors budgets, forecasts cash flow, and supports leadership with financial analysis and recommendations to guide business decisions. This role ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls, while coordinating with auditors and banking partners as needed. The Controller will also collaborate with project managers and operational leaders to track job costing, support process improvements, and contribute to the ongoing financial health of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including general ledger management, financial reporting, and budgeting.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job costing in a construction or contracting environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and financial modeling.
  • Ability to interpret financial data, prepare clear reports, and provide insight to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with leadership, project teams, and external partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role in finance is highly beneficial.
