Data Engineer
Location: Columbus, Ohio (100% On-Site)

Our client is seeking a talented Data Engineer to join their growing IT team in Columbus, Ohio. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on data professional who enjoys designing, building, and optimizing modern data platforms that support business intelligence, analytics, AI, and data-driven decision making.
This position is fully on-site, Monday through Friday, and offers the opportunity to transition into a permanent role.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data platforms, including on-premises and cloud-based data warehouses and data lakes.
- Build scalable ETL and ELT pipelines using advanced SQL and modern data engineering technologies.
- Design dimensional data models and analytical structures that support reporting, business intelligence, data science, and AI initiatives.
- Integrate data from a variety of internal and external sources, including SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, APIs, and flat files.
- Develop and optimize data transformations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and performance.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and data governance teams to establish consistent business definitions, naming standards, and calculations across enterprise data assets.
- Research and understand enterprise application data structures, including ERP, CRM, WMS, and custom applications.
- Implement data security best practices, including access controls, secure data movement, auditing, and monitoring.
- Participate in an on-call support rotation to provide production support when needed.
- Stay current with emerging cloud and data technologies while contributing ideas and best practices to the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a related technical role.
- Strong experience with SQL and complex data transformations.
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with Python.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
- Experience designing and developing data warehouses and dimensional data models.
- Experience working with Azure SQL Database and SQL Server.
- Familiarity with Power BI and modern analytics platforms.
- Experience working with cloud-based data solutions in Microsoft Azure.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience with Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, or C#.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX, Dynamics 365, Dynamics CRM, or similar ERP/CRM platforms.
- Experience working with warehouse management systems such as Korber (HighJump).
- Exposure to data governance, business glossaries, or enterprise data standards.
