For one of our clients, a rapidly growing Industrial AI scale-up based in Zurich, we are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help design and evolve the distributed systems powering the company's next generation of intelligent industrial software.

As one of the company's senior technical contributors, you'll remain hands-on while helping shape backend architecture, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering standards across multiple product teams.

What You'll Be Working On

• Designing and developing high-performance backend services supporting Industrial AI platforms

• Building event-driven architectures capable of processing large-scale industrial and IoT data streams

• Developing resilient microservices powering real-time analytics and automation systems

• Optimising database performance and distributed application scalability

• Collaborating with AI engineers, platform engineers, and product teams to deliver production-ready software

• Driving architectural decisions and establishing backend engineering best practices

• Mentoring engineers while remaining deeply involved in hands-on software development

Experience Required

• 7+ years of commercial backend software engineering experience

• Strong expertise in Go and distributed system design

• Experience building event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging technologies

• Excellent PostgreSQL and database optimisation skills

• Experience designing cloud-native applications deployed on Kubernetes

• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence software architecture across engineering teams

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting AI, machine learning, or Industrial IoT platforms

• gRPC, Protobuf, or high-performance networking technologies

• Kubernetes operators and container orchestration experience

• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform

• Observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry

• Experience working with digital twins, manufacturing software, or predictive maintenance platforms
