About Batteries4Better

Batteries4Better is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to reducing battery waste and protecting our environment by making battery recycling more accessible. Through education, community outreach, and local collection drives, we empower students to take meaningful action against pollution while developing leadership and service skills.

As we expand nationwide, we’re looking for passionate high school students to start Batteries4Better chapters at their schools and lead local recycling initiatives in their communities.

Position Overview

As a Batteries4Better Chapter Leader, you will establish and lead a chapter at your high school. You’ll recruit members, organize battery collection drives, educate your community about responsible battery disposal, and work with the national Batteries4Better team to grow our impact.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in environmental sustainability, engineering, leadership, community service, and nonprofit work. Chapter leaders will gain valuable experience in project management, communication, team leadership, and community engagement while making a measurable environmental impact.

This is a volunteer (unpaid) position.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and manage a team of student volunteers.
  • Organize battery collection drives and awareness campaigns.
  • Build partnerships with teachers, school administrators, and local organizations.
  • Promote battery recycling through presentations, social media, and community events.
  • Track collection results and report chapter progress.
  • Attend occasional virtual meetings with the national Batteries4Better leadership team.
  • Represent Batteries4Better with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Qualifications

We’re looking for students who demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership potential and initiative.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and community service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize projects and motivate others.
  • Reliability, responsibility, and professionalism.
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Current enrollment in a U.S. high school.

Previous leadership experience in clubs, student government, robotics, volunteer organizations, or other extracurricular activities is a plus but not required.

What You’ll Gain

  • Leadership experience leading a recognized nonprofit chapter.
  • Community service hours.
  • Mentorship and support from the Batteries4Better leadership team.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with students across the country.
  • Letters of recommendation for outstanding chapter leaders.
  • A chance to create lasting environmental impact in your community.

Join us in building a nationwide network of student leaders working toward a cleaner, more sustainable future—one battery at a time.
