Position Overview
VelaFi is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Brazil to lead the financial strategy, governance, and regulatory reporting of the company's Brazilian VASP entity.
Reporting directly to the Global Finance Leadership Team, the CFO will oversee accounting, treasury, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), tax coordination, regulatory reporting, financial controls, and banking relationships across Brazil. This executive will play a key role in supporting VelaFi's continued expansion by building scalable financial infrastructure, ensuring compliance with Brazilian regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial leadership to the business.
The ideal candidate combines deep financial expertise, executive leadership, and experience operating within regulated financial services organizations, with the ability to build scalable processes and support a rapidly growing global fintech company. The CFO will also play a critical role in ensuring compliance with Brazil's financial regulatory reporting framework, including executive oversight of COSIF reporting, SCE-IED filings, and Unicad (IN BCB 712/713) reporting obligations, while partnering closely with Compliance, Legal, and executive leadership.
Location
Remote – Brazil
Candidates must reside in Brazil and be legally authorized to work in the country. Periodic travel within Brazil and internationally may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Lead all accounting, finance, treasury, tax, and financial planning activities for the Brazil entity.
- Develop and execute the company's financial strategy in alignment with global objectives.
- Establish scalable financial processes, reporting frameworks, and governance standards.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
Financial Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements and regulatory reports.
- Ensure compliance with Brazilian accounting standards, tax requirements, and applicable financial regulations.
- Lead and oversee all regulatory financial reporting obligations, including COSIF reporting, SCE-IED filings, and Unicad reporting (IN BCB 712/713), ensuring timely and accurate submissions to BACEN and other applicable regulatory authorities.
- Support VASP licensing requirements and ongoing regulatory reporting obligations.
- Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors, the Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN), and other regulatory authorities.
- Maintain strong financial governance while ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
Treasury & Banking
- Oversee treasury operations, liquidity management, cash flow forecasting, and banking relationships.
- Monitor financial performance, capital allocation, and funding requirements.
- Support payment operations, FX management, and cross-border transaction activities.
- Partner with Treasury and Operations teams to optimize financial infrastructure.
Financial Controls & Risk Management
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial governance.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support enterprise risk management initiatives in partnership with Compliance and Risk leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial systems and reporting processes.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner closely with Compliance, Operations, Product, Treasury, Legal, Commercial, and Executive Leadership.
- Support strategic business initiatives, market expansion, and corporate planning.
- Collaborate with global Finance teams to ensure consistent financial reporting and operational alignment.
Organizational Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing finance professionals.
- Build a scalable finance organization capable of supporting rapid business growth.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- CPA, CRC, or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred.
- MBA or advanced finance qualification is a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience within fintech, banking, payments, financial services, or related industries.
- Strong experience leading accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance functions.
- Experience working with auditors, regulators, financial institutions, and executive leadership.
- Strong understanding of Brazilian financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax requirements.
- Experience preparing or overseeing COSIF reporting, SCE-IED filings, Unicad (IN BCB 712/713) reporting, and other regulatory submissions required by Brazilian financial authorities is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Professional proficiency in Portuguese and English.
Desired Competencies
- Regulatory reporting expertise, including COSIF, SCE-IED, Unicad (IN BCB 712/713), and BACEN compliance
Nice to Have
- Experience in fintech, payments, digital assets, stablecoins, or blockchain technology.
- Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency financial operations.
- Experience working with ERP platforms such as NetSuite.
- Experience supporting regulated financial institutions or VASPs.
- Knowledge of cross-border payments, FX operations, and treasury infrastructure.
- Experience working within multinational or global organizations.
- Hands-on experience with COSIF accounting, SCE-IED reporting, Unicad (IN BCB 712/713), and other BACEN regulatory reporting requirements.
Regulatory Requirements (Brazil VASP)
Candidates selected for this position must be eligible to satisfy applicable Brazilian regulatory requirements, including:
- Be legally authorized to reside and work in Brazil.
- Possess the qualifications, experience, and professional competence required to perform executive responsibilities.
- Hold any professional registrations or licenses required under Brazilian law to perform the responsibilities of the position, where applicable.
- Successfully complete background checks and regulatory due diligence.
- Be eligible to serve as an executive of a regulated financial institution under applicable Brazilian laws.
- Have no disqualifying criminal convictions, financial crimes, or regulatory restrictions that would prevent appointment.
- Not have been declared bankrupt or legally insolvent.
- Not have been suspended or prohibited from serving as an executive of regulated financial institutions.
- Meet any additional "fit and proper" requirements established by the Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN) and other applicable regulatory authorities.
