Credit Policy Manager

Bendigo Bank

Melbourne

Description

We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

Come and be part of the strategic core of our Credit Risk function. This is a unique opportunity to shape the Bank's lending landscape, ensuring our credit policies are not only robust and compliant but also enable sustainable business growth. As a specialist in our Credit Policy team, you will have a direct impact on safeguarding the Bank while helping us achieve our strategic objectives.

As our Credit Policy Manager, you’ll make an impact by:

  • Shaping the future of lending by developing and enhancing the Bank’s credit policies for both consumer and commercial portfolios.
  • Providing expert advice and clear guidance, translating complex regulatory requirements into practical, actionable policy.
  • Driving a culture of continuous improvement by proactively identifying and responding to changes in the market, regulatory landscape, and business strategy.
  • Collaborating across the business to ensure credit policy is a key enabler of balanced and responsible decision-making.

About the role

We're looking for a Credit Policy Manager, with a strong background and specialised experience in commercial credit policy, who doesn't just understand credit risk — they can explain it. This role sits at the intersection of policy, risk, and communication. You'll shape the rules that govern how we lend, and just as importantly, you'll make sure those rules are understood by everyone from senior executives to frontline staff.

If you can take an expansive regulatory requirement or a complex risk model and turn it into something a new team member could understand in five minutes, we want to hear from you.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain credit policies that balance risk, compliance, and business growth
  • Translate complex credit risk concepts, regulatory requirements, and data insights into clear, practical guidance for non-specialist audiences
  • Partner with risk, compliance, and frontline teams to ensure policies are understood and consistently applied
  • Write and maintain policy documentation and internal communications in plain, accessible language
  • Present policy changes and their rationale to stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership
  • Ensure policies remain compliant with relevant lending regulations and internal governance standards
  • Act as a go-to resource for questions about credit policy, known for making complicated things simple

What you’ll bring to the role

Essential

  • Proven experience in credit risk, credit policy, or commercial lending, ideally in a similar industry
  • Strong understanding of credit risk principles, underwriting practices, and regulatory frameworks
  • A genuine talent for simplifying complex information — you can explain a policy change to a non-technical audience without losing accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical mindset, comfortable working with data and portfolio metrics to inform policy decisions
  • Experience collaborating across teams, including risk, compliance, operations, and frontline staff

Highly desirable

  • Relevant qualifications in finance, risk management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience developing training materials or internal communications
  • Background in change management or policy rollout
